TDLR continuing education for Laredo licensees

Laredo licensees owe the same TDLR hours as everyone else in Texas, completed online and at your own pace.

Same TDLR hours statewide · Delivered online, self-paced

Status: CE provider registration in progress with TDLR. Enrollment opens upon TDLR approval. Provider and course numbers will be published here once issued.

Laredo has few in-person continuing education options and a long drive to any of them. Online delivery is the practical answer, not a second-best one.

Almost all of the work here happens in Spanish, and consent, patch testing and aftercare instructions have to be understood by the client, not merely handed to her. That is a safety point, and it belongs in the coursework.

Who we expect to see from Laredo

  • Bilingual salons and barbershops throughout Laredo and Webb County
  • Nail and lash technicians with heavy weekly rebooking
  • Estheticians documenting consent and aftercare in Spanish
  • Laser hair removal technicians completing their separate 8 hours

What Laredo licensees owe at renewal

Continuing education requirements for these licenses are set by the state, not by the city. A Laredo licensee in Webb County completes the same approved hours as a licensee in Houston, Dallas or anywhere else in South Texas or beyond:

  • Barbering and cosmetology licenses: 4 hours each renewal — 1 hour sanitation, 1 hour human trafficking awareness, 2 elective hours
  • Licensed 15 years or more: only the 2 required hours
  • Laser hair removal registration: a separate 8 hours, with an examination component

Read the requirement at the source rather than trusting any summary: TDLR — Barbering and Cosmetology Continuing Education and TDLR — Laser Hair Removal Continuing Education.

Course tracks available to Laredo licensees

Course numbers and tuition will be published on this site once TDLR issues them. Nothing is for sale before then.

Laredo CE questions

Do I have to travel to Houston to take these CE hours?

No. The coursework is online and self-paced, which matters in Laredo more than in most of the state.

How many CE hours does a Laredo licensee need?

The same as anywhere in Texas: 4 hours at each barbering and cosmetology renewal — 1 hour sanitation, 1 hour human trafficking awareness and 2 elective hours. At 15 years or more licensed, only the 2 required hours. A laser hair removal registration carries a separate 8 hours.

Are the rules different in Laredo than in the rest of Texas?

No. Continuing education requirements for these licenses are set by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation at state level and apply identically in Laredo, Webb County and every other part of the state. Cities do not set their own CE hour counts for these licenses.

Can I check that a CE provider is legitimate before paying?

Yes, and you should. TDLR publishes the approved continuing education provider list with provider numbers, and you can look up any license on the department's own license search. Our registration is in progress and our provider number is not issued yet, which is why you will not find us on that list today.

Other Texas cities

The same coursework serves licensees across the state:

Verify us before you trust us

TDLR publishes the TDLR approved CE provider list and a public TDLR license search. Use both. Our provider registration is in progress and has not been issued, and we would rather say so than let you assume otherwise.
