Short answer. Use TDLR's public license search to verify any Texas license, and TDLR's continuing education provider list to confirm a provider is approved. Your completion should post within seven days; if it has not, contact the provider first, then TDLR's Education and Examination division.
Look up a license
TDLR runs a public license search covering active licenses, reachable from its own search and verify hub (TDLR — search and verify licenses and TDLR license search). You can look up your own record, a co-worker's, or a school's.
This is also how you check us. Our instructor licenses are published on this site with their numbers so that you can put them into the state's database rather than take our word for anything.
Check that a CE provider is actually approved
TDLR publishes the approved continuing education provider and course list (TDLR approved CE provider list). Its own FAQ tells licensees to go to the continuing education providers page and click through to the appropriate program to see the list of approved providers and courses.
Applies to us too: our CE provider registration is in progress with TDLR and has not been issued, so you will not find Tu Es Belle CE Academy on that list today. When the provider number is issued we will publish it here and you will be able to verify it in the state's list before you pay us anything.
Any provider that will not give you a provider number, or tells you not to bother checking, is telling you something important about itself.
Confirm your hours were reported
Reporting is not your job, but confirming is your protection. TDLR states: “the reporting of continuing education hours is the responsibility of the continuing education provider. The provider must electronically file a course completion report no later than seven days after the course completion date.” (TDLR — Barbering and Cosmetology Continuing Education)
The department also tells you exactly what to do when it does not happen: check the continuing education look-up, and “if your course completion is not posted seven days after you completed the course, you should contact your continuing education provider first”, then call Education and Examination at (512) 463-6599 or (800) 803-9202. If it is still unresolved you can file a complaint against the provider (TDLR — Barbering and Cosmetology Continuing Education and TDLR — continuing education hub).
Keep your completion certificate for two years. TDLR issues that instruction to licensees, and the certificate is what you hold if a reporting dispute ever arises.

How do I check if my Texas CE hours were reported?

How long should I keep my CE certificate?
Two years from the completion date. TDLR instructs licensees to retain a copy of the course completion certificate for two years, which is also the window in which a reporting problem would surface.
